Surface Processes

Our Research

Soils lie at the interface between geology and biology. They support the growth of all crops and play a vital role in removing atmospheric CO2.

Current Researchers

Dr Sanem Acikalin Cartigny

Professor Richard Davies

Dr Mark Ireland

Professor David Manning assesses the suitability and availability of different rock types in the UK and other countries, and investigates the practical aspects of delivering the services that weathering silicate rocks provide (crop nutrients and CO2 removal).

Example projects

ViTAL Living Laboratory: measuring the carbon budgets in a major multi-use estate and identifying ways to increase soil carbon capture.
